In this newsletter, however, I’m especially encouraging you to celebrate the commitments many of us are making during the first global Week of Living the Change from 7-14 October. The Multi-Faith Association of South Australia is joining with ARRCC to host one of the world’s first Week of Living the Change events:

Adelaide celebrates Living the Change, 3.30 – 7 pm, Sun Oct 7 – at the Minor Works Building, 22 Stamford Ct; includes Aboriginal Welcome to Country, Aboriginal dance mob Dusty Feet, music and an interfaith blessing; book tickets here.

Please share Adelaide’s Facebook event on your own Facebook page.

ARRCC supporters are going all out to make this and another seven Australian events memorable. The events will variously offer musical performances, religious leaders sharing their own stories of attempting to live sustainably, workshops, a documentary viewing, and all will offer a delicious vegan meal.

Don’t miss these if you live within coo-ee! If you can make it, would you mind sharing the event on Facebook? For details and to book a place or ticket:

Perth – Russell Square on Oct 13 – share via Facebook

Brisbane – South Brisbane Jewish Congregation Synagogue on Oct 14 – share via Facebook

Hobart – UTAS Multi-Faith Centre on Oct 14 – share via Facebook

Melbourne – the Multicultural Hub on Oct 14 – share via Facebook

Otford (south of Sydney) – Govinda Valley Retreat on Oct 14 – share via Facebook

Newcastle – Adamstown Uniting Church on Oct 14 -share via Facebook

Sydney – Pitt St Uniting Church on Oct 13 – share via Facebook

The above is not the complete list of faith-related climate events that are happening in Australia. A somewhat more complete list can be found here: https://www.arrcc.org.au/upcoming-events

Other Living the Change events are being held in over 20 countries across 6 continents including:

  • Lutherans in Kampala, Uganda — A song and skit competition about “Sustainable Living with Creation” featuring choirs from different congregations and Sunday school children
  • Muslims and Christians in Shiroro, Nigeria — An interfaith sensitization and presentation of trees for planting at different houses of worship and in community members’ homes
  • Catholics in Tena, Ecuador — A three-day “Festival for Free Rivers” exploring opportunities and challenges at the intersection of faith and environment
  • Buddhists in Nova Scotia, Canada — A Thich Nhat Hanh-style Day of Mindfulness focusing on our relationship to mother Earth
  • And many more that you can find on the world map!

After this Week of Living the Change, more faith communities will be organizing events through 2 December 2018, when the annual United Nations climate negotiations are set to begin. Will you be one of them? It could be quite a small event, perhaps for your own faith community. The main aim is to encourage people to make commitments to more sustainable living.

If you’d like to schedule your own local event, you can do that here.

GreenFaith is offering a host of great resources — including a brief introduction, some talking points, a media toolkit, and a wide variety of prayers, posters, discussion guides, recipes, artwork and more — along with a clear way for members of your community to add their own sustainable living commitments to the growing global list.

In early December, GreenFaith will share all these commitments with world leaders at the UN climate negotiations. We hope you’ll add your commitment and help us demonstrate that, as people of faith, we are leading by example and offering hope for our changing world.

Please come along, if you can, and enjoy the Week of Living the Change. We look forward to creating real momentum around this campaign with you and thousands of believers around the world.

Ever onwards!

Thea
